Chandra Shekhar Dutta (born 31 July 1981) is a trained Indian actor and voice-over artist known for his work in Hindi films and Web series. He played the protagonist Sadhu in an experimental short film by Amit Dutta that won several national and international awards. After playing a series of roles that went unnoticed, he got noticed in an Amazon's prime video series Laakhon Main Ek Season 2 (2019) in which he played the character of village head and in Soumik Sen's Nakaab(2021). He gained popularity with his role in Neeraj Pandey's crime thriller web series Khakee: The Bihar Chapter and role of preacher in Vipul Amrutlal Shah's The Kerala Story. Works by eminent filmmakers are to his credit.

Early Life & Education

Chandra Shekhar Dutta was born to a middle class Hindu family in Bhuli, Dhanbad. He completed senior high school from TATA DAV school, Sijua. He moved to New Delhi and started acting in theatres. Between 2001 - 2004, while studying acting he joined a degree college. He graduated in Bachelor’s in Arts (Hindi) in 2004 from Deoghar Vidyapeeth, Deoghar. In 2005, he received Diploma in Theatres from Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts (SRC). After which he joined Repertory of Song and Drama Division of Indian Government. He, later, joined Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. During his first year in FTII, Chandra Shekhar was awarded Jaya Bachchan Fellowship for Special Talent in Acting. He received the prestigious Junior Fellowship from Ministry of Culture and Arts, India for his contribution in Theatre (year 2017 – 2019).

Career

Chandra started his acting journey as a theatre artist in Delhi. After pursuing Diploma in Theatres from Sri Ram Centre for Performing Arts he worked in numerous plays. He also worked in the Song and Drama division of the Indian government before he decided to move to Pune for two years to get a formal education in acting at FTII. After finishing his postgraduate course, he shifted his base to Mumbai to start his acting journey. He played the protagonist Sadhu in an experimental short film by Amit Dutta that won several national and international awards and was critically acclaimed. He is also a part of Hindi feature film The Kerala Story(2003) which has become a topic of national and international.
